Spartan Warrior, c.546 BC

The Spartan warrior was first and foremost a spear man. Here he is also shown with his large hoplite, in this case bearing the Gorgoneion motif. Evidence suggests these warriors went into battle naked, except for the bronze helmet, 'bell' cuirass and greaves.
Two styles of helmet are also shown and could be worn with a crest made from horse hair or fashioned from bronze.
