Kho Tang rescue, 1975

Two weeks after the close of the Vietnam war, Cambodian Khmer Rouge fighters seized the SS Mayaguez in international waters, taking the crew hostage. An assault was eventually launched by US forces on the nearby island of Koh Tang, where the crew were believed to have been taken.
What was expected to be a quick strike turned into a bloody strugle as the rescue force encountered large numbers of Khmer Rouge.
During the opperation two CH-23C's were downed.
Portrayed, is the dramatic rescue of the stranded crew from K23 and 20 Marines. After several foiled extraction attempts, a combined operation succeeded and all were extracted on JG11, a USAF HH-53C.
