WORK IN PROGRESS
HMS Rose painting
14/09/2013
I'm working on an exciting commission to paint the sloop, HMS Rose.
My clients ancestor was a member of the crew and took part in the Battle of the Scaw, 28th April 1810.
Commanded by Captain Mansell, the Rose was becalmed and isolated off the coast of Denmark, when she was attacked by a Danish sloop and gunboats.
A fierce fire fight raged for several hours before the Danes were eventually forced to withdraw.
Fortunately my client has a fine model of HMS Rose, which was a great aid in producing the painting.
Here you can see the water colour painting with a few days work still remaining.
