On June 22, 1944 the Ninth Air Force conducted a massive series of bombing raids in the Cherbourg area, trying to soften up the German defenses in preparation for the forthcoming ground offensive. Here, B-26 Marauder bombers of the 555th Bomb Squadron, 386th Bomb Group strike defenses around the port.
