A relatively affluent farmer and political figure, Thomas Brandon was an unusually tall and strong figure. He had a suitably large sword manufactured for himself and here the blacksmith presents Brandon with his handiwork.
Swords and knives were manufactured locally, often using whatever steel could be scavenged.
