Mistel's over the Oder, April 1945

In a desperate attempt to sever the Red Army's logistical links over the Oder River, Hitler ordered the use of one of Germany's more obscure secret weapons, the Mistel.
These flying bombs were guided to the target by an attached Fw-190 fighter.
During the closing months of the war they were used in several attacks. The first successful attack being on the Oder bridge at Steinau on the night of March 31.
However, the high loss rate caused by roving Allied fighters, anti aircraft guns and the unreliability of the weapon ensured the Mistel never proved to be a serious threat to the Allies.
