A Persian mounted scout approaches the Greek positions at Thermopylae.
The Spartans, in full sight and outside the Phokian wall, calmly go about their exercise and comb their hair, a sign they were prepared to risk their lives. They pay the scout no attention and he may have been astonished at the sight, but to the Spartans this was just their way of doing things.
