With the left wing of the Hanoverian army in disarray and facing collapse, this painting depicts the moment Portmore's dragoons (the Scot's Grey's) hit the Jacobite's left flank, causing chaos and carnage.
Although the Hanovarians were outnumbered and facing defeat, in the end the battle was inconclusive. Mar, the Jacobite commander enabling Argyle to escape with his Government army.
