After repeated attacks which had severely reduced the German defenders numbers, on the morning of 28 May, the Soviet 32nd Guards Rifle Division mounted an all-out attack to finally capture the village of Borisovka.
Although wounded, gathering the last 50 able-bodied survivors of his battalion, Oberleutnant d. R. Karl-Will Lump lead his men in a desperate counterattack to retake the village.
The Soviet soldiers were taken by surprise and after a vicious close quarter fight were forced to abandon the village.
