'It's time to go lad!' Arnhem,20th Sept. 1944

With the surrounding buildings all but destroyed, surviving paratroopers gathered under the Arnhem road bridge. Surrounded by Germans, with little ammunition and a Tiger tank firing at point-blank range, the paratroopers of the 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, under Lt. Jack Grayburn's command were being whittled down.
Eventually only Grayburn and Private Steve Morgan remained on their feet.
Grabbing Steve Morgan, Lt. Grayburn shouted 'I'ts time to go lad!'
As the two ran for cover across a road, Grayburn was struck by machine-gun fire from the tank and fell mortally wounded. For his gallantry at Arnhem he received a posthumous Victoria Cross.
Morgan succeeded in getting across the road. He was later captured and survived the war.
