Signed and numbered print

Having left Arnhem on a reconnaissance mission a day earlier, SS-Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 9 of Kampfgruppe 9. SS-Panzer-Division was ordered to return over the Arnhem road bridge to join the rest of the Division.
Coming under British fire, the column pressed forward over the bridge which was now mainly dominated by the soldiers of 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment at its northern end.
The first five vehicles managed to race through the British positions, but as the rest of the column crossed the bridge they came under sustained fire from anti-tank guns, PIAT and small arms fire.
In a captured British Humber Mk IV armoured car the unit commander, SS-Hauptsturmführer Gräbner, was struck by a bullet and mortally wounded.
As other vehicles tried to fight their way across the bridge, some Panzergrenadiere advanced on foot. Amoung them, SS-Hauptsturmführer Büdecker and SS-Untersharführer Kaiser, Sanitätsdienst gefreiter (Corporal, medical service), who pulled Gräbner from the armoured car, where he died from his wounds.
The road bridge had only recently been rebuilt. Covered in scaffold it was in the process of being painted grey, over the red primer.
