In the morning mist, troops of the SS-Bataillon Eberwein, supported by a Marder IID of SS-Panzerjäger-Ausbildungs-Abtellung 2, enter the village of Wolfheze, with Wolfheze train station and the rail crossing behind them.
With other tanks from Panzer-Kompanie 224, they force the remains of 156 Battalion and 10th Battalion, Parachute Regiment out of the village, as they advance along the Wolfhezerweg towards Oosterbeek.
The crossing was one of the important vehicle crossing points for the 4th Parachute Brigade as they retreated south. Sergeant Joe Black's, 17-pounder anti-tank gun and Quad tractor had to be abandoned on the crossing the previous day, when it came under German machine-gun fire with Sgt. Black badly injured.
