This tank operated with the Salingrad Front from August to October 1942. This tank carries the earliershorter-barreled 76.2mm main armament.

KV-1S Heavy Tank, 5th Heavy Tank Regiment.
Bearing the name of I.D. Papanin, a Soviet polar explorer as this units tanks were financed by workers in the Soviet Arctic. The regiment would soon be designated the 5th Guards Tank Regiment.
The 5th operated under the Don Front during Operation Uranus.
