Following the previous days fierce fighting, the British and native troops were able to capture the Sikh camp at Ferozeshah with little resistance the following morning.
This painting shows the battered, hungry and thirsty remains of the British army desperately searching the camp for food and water, while some fight with the last few Sikh soldiers who remain.
The camp was extensively mined and some have detonated in the background.
Desperate soldiers of the 9th and 31st regiments crowd around a well and use a pair of knotted trousers as a makeshift bucket.
Bengal irregular cavalry round up Sikh soldiers in the background.
