This painting is a Polish view of the defense of Fort II at Piatnica

The overstretched Polish forces manning the three earth and concrete forts defending the crossing at Lomza-Piatnica were supported by 100mm howitzers who added their fire to break up parts of the German attack.
Polish defenders were fighting from simple trenches atop the fortresses and machine-gun concrete bunkers around the forts outer edge. A dry moat, overlapping fields of fire, a sloping glacis devoid of cover and a dense belt of barbed wire all helped impede the German attacks, eventually forcing them to withdraw on 10th September.
