This painting is a Mexican view of the cavalry charge against the Texian defensive square at Coleto Creek during the Texas Revolution.
With several failed attacks in the face of fierce Texian musket fire, General of Brigade José de Urrea joins Gabriel Núñez and leads a cavalry charge with 250 officers and men.
Firing with their carbines as they approach the waiting Texians, some horsemen falter while others gallop onto the Texian lines, where they are met with close range canon, musket and rifle fire. In the face of this onslaught, the Mexican cavalry reel and fall back in confusion.
