Col. Strong Vincent led his brigade onto the rocky southern spur of Little Round Top where they were attacked by five Confederate regiments.
Vincent here stands among the 83rd Pennsylvania with the 44th New York beyond. 23 men of the 2nd US Sharpshooters joined the ranks of the 83rd PA.
Vincent calls to his pennant-bearer, Pvt. Norton to take cover with the flag as Confederate fire strikes the brigades positions.
In the background the 4th Alabama and 5th Texas can be seen advancing on Little Round Top.
Later in the fight, Col. Vincent was struck by a bullet, mortally wounding him.
